What should I do to prepare for

How long will it last?
Restylane, Restylane Fine Lines and Perlane are biodegradable which means
that they will gradually be absorbed. As the gel breaks down, water takes
its place, and when totally absorbed, the Restylane gel disappears unnoticed
from the body. How long a Restylane treatment holds its effect is very
individual. This depends on many factors, such as your age, skin type,
lifestyle, and muscle activity, as well as on the injection technique.
Clinical trials of Restylane show that Restylane, Restylane Fine Lines,
and Perlane are effective for up to six months for lip augmentation and
up to twelve months for facial contouring.
What makes Restylane or Perlane
different from other dermal fillers?
Restylane is made from hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally
in the body to attract moisture and add cushioning. Unlike most injectable
products, Restylane is not made from animal products and does not require
an allergy test prior to injection.
Prior to Treatment
Prior to treatment all makeup should be removed. If you are taking aspirin,
multi-vitamins, vitamin E, or anything that promotes bleeding, you should
discontinue it eight days prior to the treatment to avoid bruising. You
may then apply mineral makeup immediately after treatment. If you have
experienced cold sores in the past, you may elect to take Valtrex® prior
to your Restylane® / Perlane® treatment.
Will it hurt?
To minimize any pain or discomfort during the injection process, a topical
anesthetic cream can be applied to the area to be treated. You can also
choose to have a local anesthetic injection, although this is not usually
required.
What to Expect After Treatment
Immediately after the treatment, you may experience slight redness, swelling,
tenderness, bruising and an itching sensation in the treated area. This
is a normal result of the injection. The discomfort is temporary and generally
disappears in a few days. With lip augmentation, the swelling may last
longer. Some patients experience swelling for about a week. During this
time, the lips can look somewhat uneven. This means that the result directly
after the treatment should not be regarded as the final result.
A touch-up treatment within 2-4 weeks after the initial treatment may
be necessary to achieve an optimal correction.
